Weekly Themes

This list is only a sample of class themes and activities. Actual class themes will vary by session and season.

Furry Farm Friends – An introduction to all our farm animals, with a focus on our animals with fur! We will read and sing together before heading out to our farmyard to pet and and even feed some of our furry farm friends. (Farmyard hike)

Feathery Farm Friends – After an interactive story time, children will practice grinding corn as a food for chickens, before visiting with and petting feathered chickens. Children get to feed their corn to chickens, while noticing the different colors of chickens and eggs we have on our farm. (Farmyard hike)

Wonderful Worms! – Don’t be afraid to get dirty as we learn about our farm’s smallest farm animals: worms! Often underfoot and overlooked, worms still have important work to do. Children will get to experience how invertebrates like worms do real work on the farm in the soil and the compost pile – and get to hold their tickly bodies! (Garden hike)

Five Farm Senses – Let’s learn about our five farm senses before exploring our gardens with our senses, even getting to use our sense of taste on our vegetables. (Garden hike)

Horsing Around – Preschoolers will learn a new word: equine! We will introduce the different animals within the horse family, and of course pretend to be a horse, before we head up to the farmyard to meet and greet with our equine residents. (Farmyard hike)

Busy, Busy Bees –  We’ll explore the inside of a real, but unoccupied, honeybee hive by looking, touching, smelling, and of course tasting honey. We will take a short hike outside to explore the gardens and visit the bee yard to check on the bees’ early spring activity. (Garden hike)

Seeds! – Children will explore the different shapes, textures, and sounds of various seeds. Children will get to create their own seed chart, learn what seeds need to grow, and also plant season-appropriate vegetable seeds in our garden beds. (Garden hike)

Tractor Day – Little ones will learn about the different jobs tractors do on the farm through play and song. The class will enjoy the farm on a tractor ride, while singing hayride songs, before having the opportunity to get their picture taken on a tractor.  (Tractor ride and farmyard hike).
