OHIO LEARNING STANDARDS FOR OUR FIELD TRIP PROGRAMS

These are just some of the standards we meet with our field trip programming, taken from the Ohio Learning Standards:

Kindergarten Curriculum Standards (Food Sources)

Social Studies

  • Humans depend on and impact the physical environment in order to supply food, clothing and shelter

Science

  • Living things are different from nonliving things.
  • Living things have physical traits and behaviors, which influence their survival.

1st Grade Curriculum Standards (Food Sources)

Science

  • The sun is the principal source of energy.
  • Living things have basic needs, which are met by obtaining materials from the environment.
  • Living things survive only in environments that meet their needs.

2nd Grade Curriculum Standards (assuming Structure and Function)

Social Studies

  • Science and technology have changed daily life
  • Human activities alter the physical environment, both positively and negatively.

Science

  • Living things cause changes on Earth.

3rd Grade Curriculum Standards

Social Studies (if teaching Local Ohio History)

  • Local communities change over time.
  • Daily life is influenced by the agriculture, industry and natural resources in different communities.
  • Events in local history can be shown on timelines organized by years, decades and centuries.
  • Primary sources such as artifacts, maps and photographs can be used to show change over time.

Science (if teaching Structure and Function)

  • Earth’s nonliving resources have specific properties (soil)
  • Some of Earth’s resources are limited (soil fertility)
  • Individuals of the same kind differ in their traits and sometimes the differences give individuals an advantage in surviving and reproducing.
  • Plants and animals have life cycles that are part of their adaptations for survival in their natural environments.

4th Grade Curriculum Standards (assuming Local Ohio History)

Social Studies

  • The order of significant events in Ohio and the United States can be shown on a timeline.
  • Primary and secondary sources can be used to create historical narratives.
  • Various groups of people have lived in Ohio over time including prehistoric American Indians, migrating settlers and immigrants.  Interactions among these groups have resulted in both cooperation and conflict.
  • The economic development of the United States continues to influence and be influenced by agriculture, industry and natural resources.
  • Saving a portion of income contributes to an individual’s financial well-being.  Individuals can reduce spending to save more of their income.

5th Grade Curriculum Standards (assuming Structure and Function)

Science

  • Organisms perform a variety of roles in an ecosystem
  • All of the processes that take place within organisms require energy.
