School Field Trip FAQ

What is the focus of your programs?
Our focus and mission is to provide children a connection to the source of their food. This includes experiences in our farmyard, with our animals, and in our gardens. All groups visiting GHF will be given the chance to interact with our animals, including petting them, seeing what they eat, and learning about their life on the farm.

How many students may I bring?
Teachers may bring up to 72 children . Groups may schedule more than one day to accommodate larger numbers. We will divide classes into small groups of approximately 10-12.

What is the charge for programs?
The cost per student is $8 for our Farm Senses and Food Sources programs, and $10 per student for our Structure and Function and Local Ohio History programs. Soil pH program is $10 per student. Custom programming is $10-$12 per student. Teachers and aides are free. Parent chaperones are $8 or $10 each, depending on the scheduled program. There is a $100 minimum for all programs.  A non-refundable fee of $100 is needed to secure your reservation. This fee will be applied to the group total and the balance can be paid on the day of your visit or via check following the program.  Teachers and school staff are free.

Do you run programs for homeschool groups?

Absolutely!  The $100 program minimum still applies.  Homeschool groups may register as if they were from a school.  We appreciate families doing the work of organizing themselves and collecting money from their group.

What is the role of adults/chaperones?
Adults/chaperones are expected to be engaged in the program and to support the efforts of Gorman Heritage Farm educators. We thank adults/chaperones for keeping cell phones on silent, and for their help in providing behavior support when necessary, ensuring we have all students at all times, and for their help in keeping our students safe.

May parent chaperones bring siblings of students participating in the program?
No. Our programs are designed for a class group at a specific age level. We cannot allow siblings to participate in field trips.

How long is the program?
The length of time is up to you.  Our Farm Senses programs generally run 1 hour and 45 minutes. Food Sources programs are generally 2 hours. Structure and Function and Local Ohio History run approximately 4 hours, including lunch. Soil pH program runs about 4 hours. Custom programming can accommodate your schedule.  If you would like a longer or shorter program than what is listed, feel free to reach out with your scheduling needs.

What times do your programs begin?
Our morning sessions begin between 9:00 and 10:15. Our afternoon session begin between 12:30 and 1:15.

Will we see animals at Gorman Heritage Farm?
Yes. Gorman Heritage Farm programs are interactive and engaging and include farm animal encounters. The animals available for programs is dependent on season and grazing rotations, so not every animal may be available for every program.

May we eat lunch at the farm?
Yes. We have a large picnic area available that can seat groups of 60 or more. You must provide your own lunches. There is no extra charge to use the picnic area.

What is your cancellation and weather policy policy?
We run programs rain or shine, provided the weather is safe for visitors to be on the Farm.

In the event that Gorman Heritage Farm must cancel your trip due to severe weather, we will contact you with as much notice as possible. In this instance, we will do our best to reschedule your trip.
