Reports to: Operations Manager

This person will be on the front lines of making sure that we care for the land we reside on in the most responsible ways possible by instituting and overseeing regenerative agricultural practices that will set an example for those who visit the farm. Your role not only ensures our successful operations, but it helps create the margin for excellence, allowing the organization to surpass expectations and achieve its goal to be a leader of farm-based education in our region.

Job Responsibilities 

  • Contribute to the creation and execution of the organization’s annual crop plan in collaboration with the Operations Manager and Crop Consultant 
  • Plant, cultivate, weed and harvest row crops 
  • Manage allocation of crop yields and buyer relationships 
  • Collect and submit soil samples for nutrient analysis 
  • Collect and analyze data using existing spreadsheets and develop new data collection and analysis tools as needed 
  • Participate in maintenance and repair of farm equipment and machinery
  • Support Land Use Committee of the Board of Directors and attend meetings 
  • Manage Windrow Compost system in partnership with Farm Manager and Garden Staff 
  • Participate in monthly Farm Staff meetings 
  • Assist with grounds maintenance, including bush hogging, trail clearing, and snow removal
  • Work with volunteer groups to help maintain and improve farm grounds
  • Serve as a backup to the Farmyard Staff when needed to ensure proper and timely care of livestock
  • Assure compliance with standards for safety and best practices for equipment use in all areas of crop production and land management 
  • Represent Gorman Heritage Farm with environmental, agricultural, and educational organizations both locally and nationally. Stay up to date on current trends and new developments in the field of sustainable and regenerative agriculture 
  • Staff support for all GHF fundraising events 
  • Other duties as assigned

To be successful in this role, the ideal candidate will bring: 

  • Transferable experience or Bachelor’s Degree a plus 
  • Experience with crop planning, field rotation, nitrogen fixation
  • Experience working with and fixing machinery, or a willingness to learn
  • Attention to detail and data collection skills 
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills 
  • Strong social, organizational, and analytical skills 
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time, and meet deadlines 
  • Strong work ethic and passion for the land 
  • Professional attitude, sense of humor, and the ability to interact well with a wide variety of people 
  • A passion for the mission of Gorman Heritage Farm and ability to serve as an ambassador of the organization

Benefits:

  • Salary range $15-$19/hour, commensurate with experience
  • Accrual of 80 hours paid vacation per year, 40 hours sick time, 16 hours personal time
  • Ten paid holidays annually, plus the week between Christmas and New Years with minimal work requirements (check email and phone messages remotely)
