Job Title: Livestock Assistant I
Category: Up to 20 hours/week
Classification: Part time, Non-Exempt
Reports to: Farm Manager
Pay Scale: $12-$15 / hour, commensurate with experience
Purpose:
As part of the Farmyard and Livestock Team, you are part of a team responsible for the health and welfare of the farm animals, support in grounds work throughout the farm, and ensure a safe and welcoming environment for all. Working under the direction of the Farm Manager, the Livestock Assistant will care for livestock and poultry, grounds and building maintenance, assist with management of Volunteers and Volunteer Groups, and help with Summer Camp as needed.
Job Responsibilities:
Livestock Care: Feeding, watering, cleaning, and pasture rotation for livestock and poultry
Grounds: Includes mowing, trimming, and snow removal as needed to ensure grounds are kept trimmed and presentable for every day guest experience and events held on the farm. Volunteers/Volunteer Groups: Support individual Farmyard volunteers, as well as work alongside volunteer groups in the farmyard or elsewhere on the farm as needed.
Summer Camp: Assist counselors with animal care, feeding and handling.
Miscellaneous Duties as Assigned: this is a working farm and job functions may arise that are not outlined here.
Education/Skills:
- High School Diploma/GED and relevant work experience preferred.
- Basic knowledge of farmyard animals and a willingness to learn.
- Good communication skills
- Ability to work independently
- Positive attitude

Physical demands:
- This position requires very strenuous physical activities. The work is performed both indoors and outdoors in all kinds of weather.
- Frequent, repetitive lifting up to 75 pounds
- Frequent bending, kneeling, squatting, standing, walking, pushing and pulling.
Equipment operated: Zero turn, utility vehicles (tractor, skid steer, etc), string trimmer, push mower, hand tools, power tools, computer, printer/copier, and other equipment found in office, farm and teaching environment. Training will be provided for all vehicles, tools and equipment.
