The key to efficient, sustainable food and flower production, both for the professional and backyard grower alike, is healthy soil!

Join Jason Kamp, our Garden Educator, as he shares his knowledge of all things soil in an indoor talk, provides a guided tour of our very own garden production spaces, and leads a hands-on soil work & bed preparation demonstration out in the market garden.

Great for both beginner and experienced gardeners, this class will cover the following:

  • Soil science basics for home gardeners. Organic material to the rescue!
  • Build or import soil? Options for backyard production.
  • “No-till” and “low-till” methods of soil management, including: cover crops, green manure, silage tarp, deep mulch, and living mulch.
  • Tools, tips, and techniques: backyard methods at a market scale.
  • Interactive demonstration and guided practice using bed preparation tools to create “perma beds”

This informative class will also provide take home digital resources, free seeds, and your own bag of “black gold” – aged leaf mold to help you grow your own healthy food right in your own backyard!
