Front Desk First Impression Maker (Fridays & Saturdays)
Katie is a farmer, seed saver, and chef. She earned her undergraduate degree in International Studies and Sociology and worked for several years in non-profit community programs. Over time she saw again and again the healing and transformative power of a shared meal to bring people together. Already a passionate amateur cook, Katie decided to attend the Midwest Culinary Institute to pursue cooking full-time. She worked in bread bakeries, wedding venues, fine-dining and farm-to-table restaurants, and as a personal chef, including extended visits to Morocco and southern France where she learned the local cuisines from various host families. Her curiosity and appreciation for the highest quality ingredients led her to an interest in learning all about how her favorite vegetables and fruits were grown. Katie began by volunteering in her spare time, then working part-time as a farmhand, and eventually within a few years had fully switched careers once again to manage the vegetable production for a CSA and market garden on a small family-owned farm. Now Katie is passionate about combining her love of plants, food, and people by hosting classes, workshops, and events that help folks connect more deeply with each other and with the natural world. She believes the humble act of saving a seed or cooking a meal truly has the power to heal, transform, and reconnect us with our shared humanity.
